Can you give me advice on my career aspiration?
I'm 22 and recently graduated this past May '08 with a BA. I'm currently working right now with AmeriCorps VISTA - College for Texans program and in that program, I work at a low-performing high school's college access center, preparing and counseling high school seniors for college. I love my job because these kids are inner-city youth (like moi) and I'm blessed to give them hope that college is for any and everyone; from young mothers, expecting mothers, special education, some who lost all hope, student athletes, wanna-be rappers (lol), all types of students. These are really smart kids and society labels them as "hoodrats" and "hoodlums" because they reside in a rough area here in town. I have realized that this is my calling and I want a career as an academic counselor/advisor, doing the same thing I'm doing now. Is there any advice anyone can give me? Like, should I get my Masters in Educational Counseling or what?
